KIM JONES
Dynamic Digital Creative
Catching up with Kim Jones is a tough act, one that includes an inordinate amount of time stalking her beautifully curated Instagram account and hacking a sharpened logistical skill to meet an opportune convergence. Fresh from the salt-licked breeze of sunny Siargao, we finally interface with the Australian native who has but a few hours of settlement before jetting off to Japan and Spain for a flurry of fashion activities.
“Growing up in Australia gave me my perspective and a lot of my values as well, but the Philippines enabled me [creatively],” says Kim Jones as we decide on what shoes she would wear—the architectural Burberry steppers or a sexy and edgy pair of patent leather thigh high lace-up boots. (She chose the latter.) “I owe so much to the growth of my career to the country because it was here where I found where I am supposed to be and what I wanted to do.” A creative force in the digital realm, she is one of the few who is able to use her platform for something more than just superficial fluff. “It’s so amazing because you have this personal connection to people all around the world,” she begins. “I love airing my own thoughts, using fashion and travel as a conduit to communicate something. Especially with the economic and political climate, it’s important that the lifestyle side of what I do are used for things that really matter.”
Not your typical run-of-the-mill personality, Kim Jones wants to say something and when she does, she says it well—one that goes against the grain and feeling that resistance in order to ask questions that haven’t been asked yet. But most importantly, she is able to inspire her audience, and this is what makes her eyes sparkle with joy. “When I’m able to inspire someone to step out of their comfort zone, like I did, it’s incredibly uplifting and fulfilling. It’s important for me that in the cacophony of voices that exist in the digital realm that I’m doing something with substance. If one person, one girl, one woman is inspired by something that I wrote, that’s so fulfilling.”—ARDC
