TIME TRAVELLER
RICHARD MILLE RM 58-01 TOURBILLON WORLD TIMER JEAN TODT
This watch is dedicated to Jean Todt, president of the Federation Internationale de l’automobile and former boss of the Ferrari Formula 1 team, whose work involves a rigorous schedule of global travel. A motorsport enthusiast, Richard Mille thought it would be nice to design a watch for Todt that could simplify timezone issues. World timers tend to be complicated and cumbersome to use, because they must display all zones at once, but Mille mastered that functionality and even simplified it without the use of a crown or pusher. The RM 58-01 works by connecting a rotatable bezel to the movement — a new tourbillon-equipped calibre providing a 10-day power reserve. By simply rotating the bezel, which bears the names of 24 world cities to match each destination’s time zone at 12 o’clock, the user can tell actual time. Despite its ease of use, the RM 58-01 still stands out with its 50mm diameter, yet its titanium construction makes it light on the wrist. The watch is limited to 35 pieces only, with part of its sales proceeds going towards charities close to Todt’s heart: the Global Campaign for Road Safety and the ICM Brain and Spine Institute.
