he may hail from old Hong Kong stock – his parents, the renowned socialites Kai-bong and Brenda, were perhaps best known for throwing lavish parties and riding around town in a pink Rolls-Royce – but Brandon Chau is forging a very different path from that of his politician and barrister forebearrs.

After growing up in Hong Kong and attending secondary school and university in the UK, Chau began practicing as a barrister but soon found his true calling as an entrepreneur.

His first venture, Noblesse Lifestyle Group, is the sole Hong Kong distributor of high-end mattresses from the likes of Vispring and Savoir Beds – a result of Chau’s own quest for a better sleep.

His next venture, Attire House, similarly grew out of a personal love – that of bespoke menswear. In just three years it has grown to encompass a menswear outfitter, cigar room, barber shop and Bar De Luxe - legendary Ginza cocktail lounge Bar High Five’s first overseas collaboration.

“At the moment, I’m quite content but I do hope to expand into different areas such as interiors, hospitality or even F&B,” says the 34-year-old and father of three. “Being an entrepreneur and a father is not easy at all and I have to be very handson and able to manage sudden crises. I’ve had many sleepless nights but as a result I’ve learned it’s best to tackle your problems one at a time.”

One of the problems Chau is tackling is a lack of opportunities for Hong Kong’s underprivileged youth. He set up A-Life Academy while working as a barrister, with the mission of “helping youth to build a better future”. The foundation works with students over the course of two years to provide individual coaching and mentoring, along with academic guidance, social support and various other services. The future, for Chau and the students alike, is looking very bright.
