KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON
AT A TIME WHEN the Covid-19 crisis is sending shockwaves around the world, lopping value off investments and bringing normal economic activity to a virtual standstill, it’s utterly reasonable for people to be wondering what exactly do they do with their assets and portfolios if they aren’t to vanish into near-worthlessness.
Fortunately, as I write this, the stringent public-health measures that have been adopted in many countries and jurisdictions, not to mention the raft of monetary and fiscal responses to the crisis, do appear to be bearing fruit - so that at least there’s some good reason to hope that the glimmer of light at the far end of what’s been looking like a long and very dark tunnel isn’t a another disaster-laden train coming straight at us.
That, of course, hasn’t made the question of how we preserve our wealth any less relevant, which is why I venture to hope that this, the first wealth supplement in a regular series to be published by Prestige magazine, comes at a very timely moment indeed. In these pages, we offer advice on the many ways in which you can act to safeguard your assets, diversify your portfolios and, perhaps most important of all, resist the urge either to panic or to speculate in the face of wildly fluctuating markets. Remember that ultimately this will pass, and though it’s unlikely that - unless your name happens to be Bebos or Ma - many of us will emerge from this crisis significantly wealthier, a carefully calibrated response should ensure that we end up with our hard-earned investments relatively intact.
