The Richard Mille RM56-02, which was created for the Watches & Wonders event in Hong Kong in 2014, sold for a cool HK$14.5 million at Sotheby’s Important Watches Autumn Sale in Hong Kong last October. One of only 10 such pieces, this skeletonised marvel is the first tourbillon with a full sapphire case, the three parts of which were painstakingly cut and milled from blocks of solid sapphire
– a process that can take up to 40 solid days. The RM56-02 also comes with a transparent strap in an elastic, waterproof material known as Aerospace
Nano, plus a baseplate in grade 5 titanium.
