HK$ 23,520,000
A rare Patek Philippe Pink Gold Perpetual Calendar Chronograph with Moon Phases ref 2499 achieved an Asian auction record of more than HK$ 23 million at a Sotheby’s sale in Hong Kong, also setting a world record for the model. The timepiece was originally sold by Tiffany & Co., and the jeweller’s name appears on the dial below the moon- phase indicator. The pink- gold case is what makes the watch so rare, as well as the unusual combination of perpetual calendar and chronograph complications, though the ref 2499 has long been sought after by collectors. “The records for the most valuable wristwatch sold at auction in Asia and for an automatic Rolex Daytona demonstrated that buyers are willing to pursue the hottest and most hard- to- find watches available,” said Sam Hines, Sotheby’s worldwide head of watches.
