Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first manned moon landing, a similar number of lots was offered for sale at the Omega Speedmaster: To the Moon and Back auction at Sotheby’s in New York in July. Standouts included a pair of Apollo XI Ref. 145.022- 69 Speedies in yellow gold, one of which sold for US$ 68,750 and the other for $ 47,500, while a 1978 Speedmaster ST 186.004 Prototype Alaska III in stainless steel, which was made for the Space Shuttle programme, achieved $ 187,500. The star of the sale, however, was an original Speedmaster, the Ref. 2915- 1 Broad Arrow in stainless steel of 1958, which made $ 250,000.
