A Yen for Your Thoughts

Prestige Hong Kong - - UNDERCOVER -

You know when Donnie Yen rocks up to a shoot, because all chatter dies down and the sea breeze seems to pause for a second, becoming redolent with anticipation. He’s Ip Man, man – and in Hong Kong we all know who that is. When the shoot gets under way, various boxes have to be ticked. Handlers and brand agents run from one end of the superyacht to the other, breathlessly reminding shooting staff of different requirements and time limits. Upon spotting one such prompting, Yen says, without breaking his photo smize for a second, “We’re pros, it’s OK. This is fun.” The martial-arts master is as generous with his time as he’s efficient with it. A long chat follows the photographs during which, refreshingly, no topic is off limits. With champagne and canapes served up along the way, this is one cover shoot (turn to page 108) that’s as fun as it’s seamless.
