Prestige Hong Kong - - AGENDA -

At some point in winter the cold starts to get to us and dressing becomes more a chore to stay warm than a style statement. To remedy that, and to keep things fresh, we interviewed one of our favourite stylish women, Julie de Libran, creative director at Sonia Rykiel, to see how the French keep looking chic even in the dreariest of months.

What pieces did you choose for this challenge?

Pieces with volume to protect me from the frost. I like white and black, the colours I chose for today’s outfit. But I also like dark blue, browns, tans and greens.

How do you usually dress for winter?

Black faux-fur coat, leather leggings and boots. For boots I always wear ones with kitten heels to move fast throughout the day.

What do you consider staples for this season?

Men’s blazer, silk blouse, leather leggings, striped knit and the Copain Rykiel shearling bag.

How do you approach designing an autumn/ winter collection?

Usually I start by researching iconographic images and photography that inspires me. Then I research and design the fabrics. Finally I sketch the silhouette for that season. Then I do a toile fitting in my atelier at 175 Boulevard St Germain. Finally I continue for accessories, bags, shoes and jewellery.

What is your favourite winter item?

I have to cheat. Both a black faux-fur coat and a black shearling bag.
