FOREIGN FLORALS

Prestige Hong Kong - - AGENDA -

Designers know all about the power of a good flower, and they know where to go for inspiration. The warm, tropical climates of many of these Trump-slated countries make fertile ground for colourful flora and fauna. African boubou fabrics have inspired many designers through the years, recently serving as stimulus for Carven’s Creative Director, Serge Ruffieux, who reinterpreted Madame Carven’s initial renderings of the African cloth in the house’s haute couture archives. Whether or not such prints serve simply as stimuli or find themselves appropriated (an issue for another issue), it’s clear that Third World countries can offer enormous artistic inspiration.
