LOOKING SHARP
The Democratic Republic of Congo might not be the first place you’d think of to locate fashionable fellas, but this huge, civil wartorn country is where you find the sapeurs – groups of working men who turn up at outdoor clubs and functions dressed in tailored European suits and crocodile shoes. These taxi drivers and carpenters – ordinary Joes, in other words – put their hard-earned francs towards buying handmade Italian silk ties and English jackets, because they believe that dressing well helps them take control of their lives, uplifting them from the poverty and strife they face daily.
