TRIPLE THREAT

Parmigiani Fleurier refreshes its signature Kalpa series with three contemporary pieces

-

IN THE YEARS since Parmigiani Fleurier unveiled the Kalpa collection, the tonneaushaped watches have grown into a signature for the brand. This year, the Fleurier-based manufacture introduces three new models – the Kalpa Chronor, Kalpagraphe Chronomètre and Kalpa Hebdomadaire – each housing tonneaushaped movements developed entirely inhouse.

Beyond their fitted movements – all visible from the sapphire case back – the Kalpa pieces feeature contemporary finishing and resized delta-shape hands and ergonomic teardrop lugs, as well as Hermès alligator straps.

The top-of-the-line Kalpa Chronor, in a limited edition of 50, is powered by the world’s first automatic integrated chronograph movement in solid gold. Six years in the making, the COSC-certified calibre PF365 beats at a super-fast 36,000vph (5hz) for a reading accuracy of one tenth of a second. The movement features a shock-resistant variable-inertia balance and is equipped with a 65-hour power reserve. Winding the calibre PF365 is a 22k-gold oscillating weight, further lavished with the brand’s signature barleygrain guilloché motif. The Kalpa Chronor’s gold bipartite dial in black features an opaline centre and hand-applied solid rose-gold faceted indices.

The Kalpagraphe Chronomètre is driven by an automatic PF362 calibre, a COSC-certified integrated chronograph movement similar to the solid-gold PF365 with a 5Hz frequency and a 65-hour power reserve. The new PF362 calibre, which also took six years to develop, also has a 22k-gold oscillating weight that’s embellished with the barley-grain motif.

Powering the Kalpa Hebdomadaire is a manual-winding PF110 with an impressive eight-day power reserve, thanks to two series-mounted barrels. This movement offers hour and minute functions, small seconds at 6 o’clock, and a date display and weekly power-reserve indicator. Both it and the Chronomètre are in rose gold and feature dials with an opaline centre, snailed counters and luminescent rose-gold-plated indices.
