CHEZ GEORGES, PARIS
With its boisterous evening atmosphere, tables that are an inch too close together and a handwritten menu that’s almost impossible to decipher, Chez Georges is a Paris institution. Diners come for the garlic butter-soaked escargots, and they stay for the steak frites. Served piping hot, with fries falling off the plate and the cooked-just-so meat soaking up its own delicious juice, the classic French dish is done right – and brilliantly so – in this city gem. Sure, ask the servers if they speak English and you’ll get a curt “non,” but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Just point, and eat.
