Prestige Hong Kong

Style and substance

- Tama Miyake Lung | MANAGING EDITOR |

it’s a funny thing, fashion. Every six months – if not weeks – designers and brands look to reinvent the wheel and we, as consumers, anxiously await the news of what we’ll be wearing in the coming season. When you think about it, this never-ending cycle of change supports an incredible number of people – from the seamstresses who bring a designer’s vision to life to the models who sashay down the catwalk for all of 30 seconds to the salespeople who welcome customers to their boutiques on a daily basis.

It was fashion – and a guy named Tom Ford – that gave our cover star his big break as a model and brand spokesman. Fifteen years later and the Spanish heartthrob is an international television and movie star, Save the Children supporter, and environmental activist with a platform to reach millions of fans and followers. And it’s fashion that brings you this issue, our September style extravaganza, complete with the most stunning couture looks straight from Paris, an in-depth interview with pioneering Dior artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri, and our always fun and informative Runway supplement featuring the hottest trends, emerging labels and catwalk shots of the upcoming season.

Of course, the advent of autumn/winter brings with it more than a few wardrobe changes. This issue covers everything from dazzling high-jewellery collections by Chaumet and Louis Vuitton to interviews with legendary perfumer François Demachy and Jennifer Lawrence, his muse for Dior’s first new fragrance code of the millennium, as well as an abundance of stories from the worlds of art, film, music, motoring, wine and dining.

Don’t miss the romp through couturier Barney Cheng’s colourful 25-year career, the profile of eclectic musician and composer Rosey Chan, a behind-the-scenes look at the baffling movie masterpiece Last Year in Marienbad and a primer on the tricky business of book publishing from our fantastic editors and contributors P.Ramakrishnan, Jing Zhang, Stephen Short and Stephen McCarty – there’s sure to be something to pique your interest.

It’s certainly an exciting time to join the Prestige family, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to my first issue as managing editor. Over the coming months, you’ll see some changes to our look and content as we strive to bring you the very best in luxury and culture from around the world. Through it all, our goal will continue to be to produce the most entertaining, enlightening – and, of course, fashionable – magazine for you, our loyal readers. Drop me a line anytime to tama.lung@burda.hk and let me know what you love, loathe and would like to see more of. Until next time, happy reading – and shopping, eating and exploring if you’re so inclined!
