You know you want ’em
From essential accessories to trending attire, here are our top 10 fashion favourites from the autumn/winter 2018 collections
1 Cape Town
Capes are a winter staple, but this year, in line with the midi craze, Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller has taken the length down to the shin. Other brands have jumped on the bandwagon, with some hems falling down to the ankle. Throw it on à la trench coat – but chicer – or cosy up in puffa versions.
2 Giddy Up
Fendi’s cowboy boots mix a smooth sculptural shape with a range of colours and patterns, embodying the current penchant for styling diametric opposites into a single outfit.
3 Bounce
Stella McCartney has always designed cool pieces for the woman on the go, and this season is no different with her new Loop trainers, a hybrid of sock boot and running shoe that’s as comfortable as it’s stylish.
4 Put a Ring on It
Signet rings are de rigueur on the digits of the fashion savvy. The once-niche piece of jewellery has been democratised, and so long as you can find a design that suits your fancy – perhaps this one from Versace? – you too can carry your allegiance on your pinky finger.
5 Cool Kicks
From the trade war to the catwalk, China is on everybody’s mind. Kenzo’s autumn/ winter collection takes its cue from the saturated colours and dreamlike ambience of Wong Kar-wai’s film In the Mood for Love. Other brands such as Valentino are taking cues from Chinese lore and its creatures.
6 Wrap it Up
Scarves are having a moment. From turbans to accessories to clothing, brands are finding ways to use famous scarf prints or textures in a whole new way. Use this Louis Vuitton Time Trunk Monogram Square to adorn the handle of your bags or tie it round your head for a turban to wear poolside.
7 Side Saddle
As testament to the power of a throwback It product, Dior has reissued its signature Saddle bag from John Galliano’s spring/summer 2000 collection. The brand’s current designer, Maria Grazia Chiuri, reinterprets the bag in patchwork designs, logos and leathers, and a new ethnically inspired strap.
8 To the Brim
Big hats are back. The trend that took off with Jacquemus’s La Bomba straw creation has been given a hardier lease of life in Japanese brand Ambush’s khaki-green bucket hat. Its mammoth brim will have any good scout prepared for both rain and shine.
9 Kelly Me Pretty
The new Hermès Kellyado is a more youthful version of the storied house’s classic Kelly bag. With its colourful leathers and compact size, this backpack is a modern iteration of a traditional design, allowing wearers to go about their day hands-free and in style.
10 Moroccan Moment
Bruno Frisoni’s final collection for Roger Vivier is inspired by the languid glamour of Morocco, as experienced through the camera of legendary Vogue editor Diana Vreeland. Cords and tassels are recurring features, adding an exotic spin to each piece.
