INSPIRATION CAN strike anywhere, any time, and for Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele it was during a stay at the legendary Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. After admiring the in-room laundry bag printed with the hotel’s unofficial mascot, Pan, he replicated it with drawstring handles and sent it down the runway for his Cruise 2019 collection. Pan – depicted on the original fountain in the hotel’s courtyard colonnade and considered god of the wild, shepherds and their flocks – and the hotel’s medieval-style typeface are one of the key details of the new Cruise collection. Both are splashed across Michele’s ready-to-wear offerings and on bold, brightly coloured bags. With only 63 rooms and suites, and a host of celebrated tenants, Chateau Marmont is a certified Hollywood landmark. So if you can’t get your hands on its coveted amenities, at least for one season you can get the next best thing. gucci.com
