MODERN TWIST
Graff pays tribute to the playful, spontaneous stylings of American contemporary artist Cy Twombly
LAURENCE GRAFF OBE is more than the founder of one of the world’s more fabulous jewellery maisons. He’s also one of the world’s foremost collectors of modern art, having amassed a series of masterpieces by the likes of Jean-Michel Basquait, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. That appreciation for contemporary art – and in particular American painter, sculptor and photographer Cy Twombly – comes to life in a glittering new collection from the London-based jeweller. Twombly’s calligraphic artworks and those of other artists in his oeuvre have been interpreted as free-flowing swirls that encircle the neck and spiral downwards from the ear lobe in a cascade of diamonds and rubies. Other highlights of the collection include a floral-inspired ring with invisibly set diamonds forming each playful petal, and an exquisite diamond necklace made of swirling loops and a halo of brilliant gems. Each statement piece has been created by Graff’s master craftsmen to evoke the spontaneity that contemporary artists are known for and to mirror the flow of paint on canvas. With meticulous attention to detail and painstakingly hand-set gemstones, the collection of rings, earrings and necklaces would be equally at home at a gala dinner or on a gallery wall.
