NEXT UP FROM KILIAN HEN­NESSY: A DOZEN SCENTED LIPSTICKS

Hen­nessy’s new­est project, launch­ing Fe­bru­ary 1, is a collection of 12 scented lipsticks. The six matt and six satin ver­sions — cre­ated with the tech­no­log­i­cal ex­per­tise of Estée Lauder — fea­ture a new gour­mand fra­grance with nat­u­ral essence of neroli, nat­u­ral ab­so­lute of vanilla and nat­u­ral ab­so­lute of orange blos­som. “What’s in­ter­est­ing and what a lot of peo­ple don’t know or have forgotten is that M.A.C lipsticks were scented,” Hen­nessy says. “They were scented with vanilla only, so I knew that vanilla works well and was very well ac­cepted by women.” Also well ac­cepted so far has been the for­mula of the lipsticks. “Dur­ing [Paris] Fash­ion Week in Septem­ber, we sent 20 cases to make-up artists — you should see the mes­sages we re­ceived,” Hen­nessy says. “They were like, ‘Oh my God, those lipsticks.’ The big­gest leap we’ve been able to do is on the matt. Be­cause what I al­ways heard from women is that they love the look of a matt lip, but they hate the way it feels. So with Estée Lauder, for a year we pushed them to add an emol­lient as a hy­drat­ing fac­tor in the lip­stick, so when you put it on you look like you have matt lips, but you don’t feel like you have matt lips.”
