Giorgio Armani presents La Prima, a collection inspired by the handbag that first took the fashion world by storm in the 1990s
TAKING INSPIRATION FROM the design and details of a tailored jacket and carefully considering the needs of his customers, Giorgio Armani unveiled his first handbag, La Prima, in 1995. Now he’s elevated La Prima to an entire collection, with six new bags that stay true to the original while employing new manufacturing techniques.
Available in both vegetable calfskin and palmellato calfskin and in colours ranging from white and nude to burgundy and black, the styles include an updated rectangular version of the original as well as totes and shoulder bags. Evening versions come in lacquer, silk satin, patent crocodile and lizard.
“Coherence has always been a distinguishing feature of my design process. The bag I designed in the early ’90s was a natural development of what I was already doing with clothes,” Armani says. “The cornerstone of the creative process, then and now, is the combining of form and function in a precise and elegant sign in which the details, discreet and crafted with painstaking care, are essential.”
