FERNANDO JORGE’S PIECES ARE SEXY, SENSUAL, AND IMBUED WITH MOVEMENT AND COLOUR
One word describes Fernando Jorge’s jewellery: “sexy”. Sinuous curves, imbued with movement and colour, dominate the aesthetic of his collections. The feminine silhouette and the shapely curves of a woman inspire many of his pieces.
The Fusion diamond ring and bracelet, for example, feature rounded pink opals that hug around the finger and wrist. The Stream Cycle ring is adorned with emeralds, amazonites, and aquamarines. The piece is part of a collection that is inspired by “unexpected curves formed by liquid streams finding their way around the contours of the body”. Then there is the Electric Clear Shock ring, a dynamic piece that features an array of pear-shaped diamonds. All these pieces exude a timeless and contemporary feel, emblematic of Jorge’s salute to nature and appreciation for the human form.
Born in Brazil, Jorge began working in key design roles for various Brazilian jewellery labels before moving to London for an MA in Jewellery Design. In 2010, he launched his jewellery line, and has since built a loyal following not just among jewellery lovers, but also within his fellow industry players. His creations have
won critical acclaim, bagging awards and nominations globally.
More recent collections, like the Bloom, capture the beauty of nature and reinforce Jorge’s organic style with soft fluid lines and colourful gemstones, some are reminiscent of stems and sprouts. The Sprout open ring, for instance, comes in blue coated 18K gold, diamonds, and tanzanite; while the Corolla earrings feature amethysts, chalcedony, and diamonds in 18K rose gold.
This year at the Couture Design Awards 2017, Jorge won the award for the Best Diamonds Over $20,000 with his earrings from the new Brilliant collection. Unlike his other pieces typically set with coloured stones, he uses all diamonds in this collection for the first time. The leaf-like earrings radiate and sparkle with every movement, thanks to the graphic structure and graduated sizes of diamonds.
It was, in fact, a challenge Jorge set himself to do, using only brilliant-cut diamonds to create something different, yet classic and wearable. With the award-winning jewellery channelling the same vibrancy and energy as his previous collections, the young designer’s efforts clearly paid off. The Brilliant collection is set to be launched in stages throughout the year.
