BELFORD JEWELLERY

-

During the ‘70s, at the height of commercialism in Hong Kong, two art-loving hobbyists decided to put up Belford jewellery, commissioning designs for friends and valued clients. Little did they know that more than 40 years later, the brand would evolve into one of Hong Kong’s respected jewellers.

Belford’s one-of-a-kind designs, which marry functional art with quality craftsmanship, have put Belford on the map for fine jewellery in the region. “Finding balance between artistry and practicality has always been an important consideration for us,” says Billy Wong, Belford’s General Manager, about their company’s design process. “We allow space for creativity, yet not so much as to render the final piece unwearable.”

The Polar and Lava collections embody this philosophy, featuring pieces that utilise the inherent charms of Mexican opals. “The shape and orientation of each opal piece was abstract, so there wasn’t a definitive design right from the beginning. We allowed the pieces to evolve,” explains Billy.

To ensure its relevance in the market in the last 40 years, Belford Jewellery has learned to gracefully accommodate shifting trends — be it multi-functional or multi-occasion pieces. “There is an emphasis on style and fashion over investment and inheritance values,” says Billy. But this doesn’t deter the brand from creating stylish pieces with investment value.

With the rise of digital revolution comes trends that come and go with breakneck speed, much to the distress of most jewellers. However, Billy is confident about Belford’s continued place in its customers’ hearts. “The fundamental desire of jewellery lovers remains the same: to find something unique and personal — and that’s something we always deliver.”
