CARLO BARBERIS
Valenza-based jewellery brand Carlo Barberis’ creations tions exude its founder’s passionate and strong spirit. At 11 years old, the young Carlo started training as a goldsmith, that by the time he was 20, he was already experienced enough to open his own workshop. To this day, the brand, which was attributed the Nr 39 trademark — by now the oldest one in Valenza, still proudly carries Carlo’s legacy.
“Our brand is known for a peculiar fondness for colour matching,” shares Maria Barberis, Carlo’s granddaughter and one of the third-generation Barberises who now manage the company. “For the past 90 long years of our brand’s history, we have been passionate about creative and innovative use of semi-precious stones involving specialised cuts. This, I think, is our main contribution to this wonderful world of jewellery.”
In 2001, Maria and her brother, Francesco, joined the company to help steer the brand into the right direction, introducing innovative designs and developing a new network of business relations worldwide. Creativity in utilising a variety of themes and design techniques is what characterises the brand.
“It is like a kaleidoscope of shapes and colours, always changing and forming new patterns and using different techniques and materials. So each collection has its own story and production method.”
To illustrate, the new Gems collection is dedicated to the splendour of unique gems, which colour and brilliance are enhanced by unique settings, sometimes outlining a crown of fantasy-cut diamonds; while the Kaleidoscope Gems line exudes a geometrical fascination of kaleidoscope, combining specially cut coloured gemstones.
“For this year’s collections, we tried to convey lightness and amusement into classical shapes, to achieve the elegance of simplicity with a touch of fresh and cheerful levity,” shares Maria.
