HENN OF LONDON

-

German designer Ingo Henn combines his Idar-oberstein heritage with his exceptional gold-smithing skills to create stunning works of art. Distinctive of his creations are the show-stopping gemstones at the heart of each masterpiece.

Designing in his studio at Hatton Garden’s jewellery district, Ingo says he first ‘listens’ to the ‘rare beauties’ that come to him via his family’s gemstone business before he designs. “The gemstone is always the heart of the piece — its shape, colour, and personality eventually influence the overall design.”

Using graded enamelling, Ingo fashions the illusion that the colour which the gemstone seeped onto the metal imparts some of its life to the piece — a powerful metaphor that propels his jewels into the realm of ‘wearable art’. Some pieces are further embellished with handengraved patterns, reinforcing artistic punch.

Commissions are an important part of Ingo’s work, and he is currently creating fascinating narratives with carved gemstones. Among his favourites are the tanzanite peacock and the morganite ‘entwined flamingos’ pendants.
