VAN GELDER INDIAN JEWELLERY

-

Bernadette van Gelder fell in love with India on her very first trip. And in true Bollywood style, she has travelled throughout the country, meeting families and taking few antique jewels back to the Netherlands to sell in various parts of Europe.

The quest to collect the extraordinary traditional Indian jewels has been on since 1980, when she founded the company. Bernadette is now joined by her daughters, Fleur and Noëlle. “No other style of jewellery can compare to the richness in meaning, technical superiority, diversity in styles, and use of materials and colours of Indian jewellery,” expresses Noëlle. According to the three ladies, ‘passing on traditions’ is their biggest achievement to date. “We want the current and future owners of these jewels to add their own new stories to the already rich history of the pieces.”

Giving a modern look to the traditional jewellery by way of photography is the first step taken by the daughters. “Our collections and styling effortlessly connect the East and West, as well as traditional and contemporary preferences.” This triggered a creative process that eventually led up to the ambition of expanding Van Gelder Jewellery with their contemporary designs, set to debut in Autumn 2019.

“We collect traditional Indian wedding suites, understand the look in local and western setting, and then we create dreamy, conceptual looks with the ‘Van Gelder’ vibe — all without ever neglecting the historical background of the pieces. We can’t wait to add our Contemporary Collections in this equation,” summarises Noëlle.
