WALLACE CHAN

-

Wallace Chan’s approach to jewellery, objets d’art, and adornments is as much intellectual as it is emotional. In his opinion, jewellery is more than just adornment. A piece of jewellery does not only tell stories as carriers of heritage, it is a reflection of the times it was created.

Gemstones are Wallace’s language, and through them he translates his messages. His passions for art, nature, culture, philosophy, technology and change drive his design process, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that transcend the boundaries of contemporary jewellery.

Wallace Chan is a jewellery creator and innovator. His thirst for knowledge has led to his creation of numerous innovations, including The Wallace Cut — an illusionary three-dimensional carving technique invented in 1987, a mastery of titanium in jewellery making, a patented jadeite luminosity-enhancing technology, the invention of elaborate gemstone settings without metal-claws, and most recently, The Wallace Chan Porcelain, a material five times stronger than steel.

He was the first Chinese jewellery artist to exhibit at prestigious art fairs like The European Fine Art Fair held in Maastricht and the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris. Some of his solo exhibitions have been held at Christie’s Gallery (Hong Kong, 2019), the Gemological Institute of America Museum (Carlsbad, 2011); the Capital Museum (Beijing, 2010); Kaohsiung Museum of History (Taiwan, 1999), and the Deutsches Edelsteinmuseum (Idar-oberstein, 1992).
