Living on the go implies we live, work and play, from one place to the next, within a spur of the moment. That is why, when moving to another city, serviced apartments are undoubtedly a viable living option. However, after a while (two weeks, a month, or eight), these spaces can prove rather impersonal, lacking the warmth a home provides.

Here is how to personalise your serviced apartment without running the risk of losing your deposit:

1. Rearrange furniture

Examine how the fixtures that are included are distributed in the space. Within reason and without damaging these fixtures, the flooring, or your back, explore the flow of the apartment and how you can utilise it. Often, moving items at an angle or even centring them on walls will make it all feel more harmonious.

2. Soft goods

Adding textiles can infuse your personality into a neutral space. Consider replacing sofa or bed pillow covers with ones that resonate with your own style. Most throw pillow covers are standard sized and you can easily swap them out. Throws are also a great accessory for the bed, the sofa or the dining table; they can enhance a home's character. Don't forget that small rugs as well as monogrammed towels are easy to source online or locally and will add a distinct mark that, like all the other soft goods mentioned, are easy to pack up for your next move.

3. Personal photographs

What better way to emblematise your abode than by displaying moments and people that are uniquely yours? Digital photo frames are also a great alternative for displaying hundreds of looped memories in a single frame.

4. Temporary wallpaper, decals or vinyls

Bare walls or focus areas can be brought to life with easy-to-install decals or wallpaper that adheres to most smooth surfaces without damaging them.

5. Selection of knick-knacks

Most of us have personal mementos that can be easily packed and tastefully distributed throughout the living space.

6. Books

It doesn't matter if they are new, old or borrowed. Coffee table books or meaningful hardcovers can be purchased and resold at second hand stores or online. When ready to move, you can even sign them with a personal inscription and gift them to friends.

7. Greenery

Invest in small pots and indoor plants. Explore your local flower market to find helpful vendors and competitive prices. Lavender, jasmine, aloe, bamboo and philodendron are all great choices; some even purify the air. Place on ledges or in special nooks and corners. Since not everyone has a green thumb, air plants and succulents are easier to care for, and buying flowers on a weekly basis will make your serviced apartment look and feel more like a home that is yours.
