Kornhill Apartments

It's not always easy finding apartments for larger families but Kornhill Apartments come up trumps. For a minimum stay of one month, the contemporary two- and threebedroom units have up to two bathrooms and feature a full kitchen with large fridge/freezer, hob, microwave and washing machine. There are separate living and dining areas, fast Wifi and plenty of desk space. Communal facilities are top notch with an indoor swimming pool, sports courts (children can use the badminton and table tennis courts) and gym, plus an alfresco lounge area on the third floor. If that's not enough, the adjacent Kornhill Plaza offers shops, restaurants and a cinema for the entire family to explore.

Eaton Residences

Although this chain of serviced apartments has three locations, the Blue Pool Road site in Happy Valley is probably the best suited for families. This is partly because it has sizeable suites with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, separate rooms for living and dining and a fully fitted kitchen but also because it has an outdoor pool–and which child will say no to that? There's a gym for the older members of the family but Eaton residences is within walking distance to Happy Valley Racecourse with its playground, running track and sports fields. Other family-friendly amenities include cots on request and car park rental along with self-laundry, NOWTV, cable and satellite TV, linen, towel and maid service.

Hong Kong Gold Coast Residences

Although only a 30-minute drive to Central, the Hong Kong Gold Coast Residences, overlooking Castle Peak Bay, seem a world away from the city bustle. The stylish serviced apartments feature up to three bedrooms and 935 square feet of space, with amazing views and access to all the clubhouse facilities that residents of the long-stay apartments and villas can enjoy. There are tennis and squash courts, free-form outdoor and semi-open swimming pools, billiards, a gym and loads of lawn to picnic and play on, including one with football goals. Little ones will love the outdoor playground and fabulous indoor Kids Cove, with its climbing frame, ball pit and soft toys, and they can try their hand at growing herbs and vegetables at the Fun Farm. Golden Beach is a 10-minute walk away while a small mall adjacent to the residences has a supermarket and options for dining.

Patina Wellness

Being with the family doesn't only mean children. Patina Wellness in Kowloon City is Hong Kong's first privately run serviced apartment centre for senior citizens, dedicated to assisted living and elderly wellness. The 79 elegant one- to three-bedroom apartments are fully equipped with the usual amenities but also have safety measures in place such as emergency call buttons, motion sensors and handrails. There is a luxury clubhouse with outdoor pool, gym, spa, mahjong and music rooms plus a healthfocused restaurant, computer lounge and an entertainment lounge for karaoke and movies. Services include onsite professional medical and rehab support such as 24-hour nursing care, counselling, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. While Patina Wellness is geared towards the needs of the elderly, it understands the desire of cross-generational families to live together under one roof so the whole family is welcome to stay at the property too.

Royal View Hotel & Serviced Apartments

Staying at the Royal View in Tsuen Wan is made easy, particularly if you have children. There are multiple accommodation options to choose from including 1,226-square-foot apartments with three bedrooms (cots on request) and a kitchenette. There is an indoor soft playroom for little ones, a games zone and an outdoor swimming pool. For older teens, entertainment runs to a karaoke room, gym and spa centre with massage, steam and sauna rooms and a Jacuzzi. If you'd rather not cook, there's room service available from 11am to 10:30pm or Café Lido, which offers à la carte all-day dining. The Royal View's comprehensive menu of amenities includes laundry and dry-cleaning, secretarial, concierge and babysitting services. There's also a regular shuttle bus to and from Tsuen Wan MTR station and Tsim Sha Tsui, but with Hong Kong Disneyland on the doorstep, parental preferences might not get a look in.
