西貢的另一熱門活動就是觀星。漁護署和建築署去年在西灣與鹹田灣之間已廢棄的營地，共同興建一個全新的觀星設施，從西灣沙灘沿麥理浩徑二段步行上山便能到達。設施是一座由玻璃纖維強化樹脂板組成的環形座椅，座椅形態根據人體工學設計，讓人以最舒適的135度坐姿仰望星空；按四周的樹線形態設計，及採用綠化和環保方法建造，融入大自然當中。另外，觀星設施的中央部分，是一個最多可容納約30人的硬鋪平面，讓觀星人士放置腳架和望遠鏡，地面嵌入鋼製座標方便辨別方向，欣賞不同方位的星空。

Looking for something more peaceful? Sai Kung is also the perfect place to stargaze. Located on a deserted campground between Sai Wan and Ham Tin Wan, a new stargazing terrace just opened last year and is reachable via Stage 2 of the Maclehose Trail. Co-built by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and the Architectural Services Department, it features an amphitheatre with incline benches that have been ergonomically designed at a 135-degree angle, so visitors can look up at the night sky in comfort. This eco-friendly structure has a flat-ground area in the centre that can accommodate up to 30 people at a time and has steel coordinates embedded in the ground. It allows stargazers to easily set up their tripods and telescopes, and find constellations in the night sky.
