Italy in Paris
Following the successful openings of stores in New York and Milan, Casa Panerai has opened in Paris, with a boutique-exclusive timepiece that is the watchmaker’s ode to heritage and innovation
In November 2023, Panerai cut the ribbon to unveil Casa Panerai Paris, its flagship store at the iconic Avenue des Champs Elysées. Located within a historic mid-19th-century edifice, the Parisian boutique is a fusion of French baroque and Italian style, a space where every meticulously restored moulding and artisan-crafted detail exudes an old-world charm with new-age luxuries. At the opening, the Italian watchmaker also introduced a boutiqueexclusive timepiece inspired by the Radiomir collection.
The original Radiomir watches were developed in the 1930s when Panerai began supplying the royal Italian navy with precision timekeeping instruments.
These early watches were designed to be legible under the extreme conditions faced by navy divers, featuring large, luminous dials and robust constructions. The distinctive cushion-shaped case, wire lugs, and luminescent material, which was originally radium, hence the name “Radiomir”, were all design elements born from the need for reliability and visibility underwater. Over time, these attributes have become iconic hallmarks of the Panerai Radiomir collection.
Enter the Radiomir Annual Calendar PAM01364. The latest reference’s sun-brushed green dial is a nod to the Radiomir collection’s seafaring roots.
The dial displays the date and day at three o’clock. But a particularly striking feature is the inclusion of the display of the current month, which appears on an external disc that also occupies the three o’clock mark, pointed out by a stationary arrow. Additionally, a small seconds subdial adds a touch of classic watchmaking finesse at the nine o’clock position.
This functionality is run by the new automatic P.9010/AC calibre, equipped with a power reserve of three days.
The PAM01364 is as robust as it is refined, housed in a 45mm Panerai Platinumtech case water resistant down to 100 metres; the material is engineered to maintain the lustre of
traditional platinum while offering increased resistance to scratching. The open caseback, shielded by a see-through sapphire crystal, reveals the intricate workings of the movement, a visual feast for the connoisseur. On the wrist, the dark brown hand-dyed alligator strap complements the green dial, while the white gold adjustable buckle ensures the timepiece remains secure yet elegant.
While the spotlight may shine on the PAM01364, its sibling, the PAM01363, also deserves a mention. Sharing the same movement and functions, this timepiece is encased in polished Panerai Goldtech, and has a blue sun-brushed dial, offering a radiant alternative to the subtle elegance of its platinum counterpart.
