It is with good reason that this long-standing Dining Concepts restaurant is considered among the city’s best staples for traditional Indian fare. The inviting atmosphere, with its dimmed lighting, well-spaced seating and an easygoing staff certainly plays a part; but it is the superb menu crafted by chef Ahmed Qureshi, serving up an eclectic variety of Indian favourites boasting authentic yet adventurous flavours, that steals the show. It is hard to choose one standout from it, either—the well-seasoned murgh tikka methi malai (boneless chicken kebabs flavoured with burnt garlic and fenugreek) served with a tangy mint sauce is tender and succulent, while we love the fluffy, chewy garlic nan that plays the perfect sidekick to strong mains such as the rogan josh (meaty lamb chunks cooked in onion and red pepper sauce, a Kashmiri delicacy), creamy palak paneer (homemade cottage cheese chunks and spinach) and tandoori nisha (grilled prawns marinated in lemon juice, yoghurt, freshly ground pan roasted spices). Portions are generous, and while the arrival of dishes suffers from the occasional lag, it gives way to ample socialising with your dinner companions.
