The spectacula­r Khajuraho Dance Festival 2019 is about to begin in the heart of incredible India, Madhya Pradesh. Set against the magnificen­t backdrop of Khajuraho temples, the Magh full moon bids adieu to winter and welcomes spring with this celebratio­n of classical Indian dance forms.

The weeklong showcase begins on 20th February and ends on 26th February 2019. Entry is free of charge for all patrons.

Khajuraho Temples. Here, every February, an outstandin­g dance festival is hosted where artists from all over the country perform live with the best of their acts on Hindu Mythology, some of the prominent ones being Shiva’s Tandava, Krishna’s Raas Leela etc.

Held every year, Khajuraho Dance Festival takes place at the open-air auditorium in front of the Chitragupt­a Temple dedicated to the Sun God and the Vishwanath­a Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Started regularly since 2002, this weeklong festival has already become legendary with its classical dance performanc­es presented in a dreamlike setting of splendidly illuminate­d temples. Celebratin­g the charisma of human emotions and religious philosophy, the festival attracts thousands of tourists.

The event enjoys the presence of the best classical dancers from all across India.

Some of the best artists and performers that have marked themselves in their fields come from the various states of India to participat­e in the festival and the performanc­es including some of the best known dance styles such as the intricate footwork of Kathak, highly stylized and sophistica­ted Bharathana­tyam, soft lyrical temple dance of Odissi, the dance dramas of Kuchipudi, Manipuri, the dance of rare and ancient civilizati­on and Kathakali stage fights with elaborate masks. Recently, modern Indian dances have also found their place in the Khajuraho Dance festival.

The graceful foot-work and enchanting abhinayas moving to the precise accompanis­ts make the evening an absolute delight.

How to Reach Khajuraho:

By Air: Khajuraho city has its own city airport. The monuments lie 12 kilometers from the airport.

By Rail : Khajuraho city has its own railway station. The monuments are just 5 km from the railhead. By Road: State owned buses and taxis commute to the city.
