ABHA

White Road. Warm Smiles.

-

The first issue of 2020 is shorter than usual because the coronavirus conundrum abruptly abbreviated field work. All travels were canceled in view of public and private transport coming to a grinding halt. However, brief travel before the prohibitive orders and lockdown produced a decent number of story ideas for the issue. ABHA Volume 5, Issue 1, June 2020 covers winter in a remote corner of Ladakh that opened recently for tourists. That is unfrequented side of the famous Nubra (Siachen) Valley. The valley named after wild roses would also be beautiful in summer. But, the latest issue presents its wintry face and the snow covered Leh-Yarma road connecting Leh and the Shyok and Siachen valleys and sights along it.

This time Celebration section has a pair of stories, unlike norm of one. Commercially produced Dosmochey made everyone smile in the local cum non-local crowd, whereas Yargon Tungshak allowed locals to “immerse” themselves in chhams and gambling.

I know many lost jobs; priority is saving for today and tomorrow. No holidays despite plenty of “forced leisure.” If you are still burning to do Himalayas and corona could not dampen your love for action, be the armchair adventurist and enjoy what you liked the most.

(Armchair) travel with ABHA to new corners of the Karakorum; and keep alive associated fitness goals. So, as soon as corona is defeated, you will hit the road without wasting time on a pre-trip search.
