BOUCHERON, the iconic jewellery house, that started its journey at 26 Place Vendome, Paris, turns 160. The maison celebrated its anniversary by holding a new experiential exhibition Vendorama, a take on the name of its birth place. The exhibition was open to public from January 12th to 28th, and was held at the Monnaie de Paris, a coining workshop and now a cultural centre with splendid architecture.

Founded on the three solid pillars of innovation, creativity and know-how, Boucheron has always laid great importance to traditional craftsmanship.

Visitors were welcomed by a cat Wladimir, an app that acted as a witty guide, who peppered its narrative with anecdotes about Boucheron.

The story began in 1858, when Frédéric Boucheron (1830–1902) broke away from his family’s traditional drapery business and set up a jewellery shop under one of the arcades of the Palais Royal. Business prospered and in 1893, Boucheron moved from the Galerie de Valois to new premises at 26 Place Vendôme. Boucheron was the first jeweller in the place.

The Boucheron family members – Frédéric, Louis, Gérard, Alain – contributed in turn to 26 Place Vendôme that led them towards a winsome future that is novel.

Hélène Poulit Duquesne, chief executive officer, Boucheron, stated, “We didn’t want to put on a straightforward retrospective. We wanted to open the Maison Boucheron doors, to reveal the vivid world of our jewellery, and our forward looking vision. Vendôrama forms part of this year’s celebrations for our maison. Without being backward-looking, we have sought to provide a snapshot of Boucheron as it is in 2018, strong in its 160 years of history and craftsmanship. We also wanted to project an image of its jewellery in the 160 years that lie ahead! As a family maison, but primarily a visionary creator, Boucheron is the Place Vendôme iconoclast.”

In its 160-year-long journey, Boucheron has designed daring and timeless jewellery that is engraved on our collective memory. Here’s a look at some of the iconic Boucheron creations:
