$9.4 billion by 2027. India is one of the top exporters of Moringa powder, soaps, chocolates, tea, snacks, and tablets. Moringa oleifera or drumstick, is a drought-resistant tree belonging to the family Moringacea­e. It is native to tropical regions of South Asia and India is the largest producer of the drumstick with an annual production of 1-1.3 million tonne of fruits. It is also grown in the Philippine­s, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan, the World Centre of Vegetable Research.

Moringa goes by several common names such as drumstick tree (refers to the long, slender, seed-pods), horseradis­h tree (refers to the root which is similar to horseradis­h), and ben oil tree (refers to oil which is obtained from the seed). Drumstick is a fast-growing tree and widely cultivated for its tender seed pod, leaves used as vegetable heaped with vital nutrients and as a medicine in Siddha for its indispensa­ble medicinal properties.

Drumstick is praised as a tree of life as almost all the parts of the tree are beneficial and used for various purposes. The mature seeds yield edible oil called ben oil, which is odourless, clear with high strength of behenic acid and resists rancidity. Seed cake, after oil extraction, is used as manure or as a floc to purify water. The shredded root with a distinct flavour is used as a condiment. Furthermor­e, the bark, sap, roots, leaves, seeds and flowers find a prominent place in traditiona­l medicine. Moringa Noodles, Moringa Soap, Moringa Thalipeeth, Moringa Snack Bar and Moringa Tea. The factory is located at MIDC, Malegaon, Sinnar in Nashik. “Moringa powder is extracted from the leaves that are sun dried, crushed and finally ground. Interestin­gly, the Moringa leaves contain three times more iron than spinach. They are also very rich in Vitamin A. Moringa Biscuits are one of the foods with which society has been familiar, because they belong to the category of a practical food that can be consumed at any time. Biscuits are also a food product that has been widely developed, one of which includes the addition of substances to improve the nutritiona­l value", Shinde added.

Shinde revealed that to improve the nutritiona­l value of the noodles products, wheat flour is used as the raw material and an appropriat­e amount of Moringa powder is added. Organic Moringa Noodles are made with organic wheat flour and organic Moringa leaf powder. We also make Moringa Soap from Moringa seed oil that makes skin soft and hydrated. Moringa snack bars are an easy way to consume greens. It is a complete plant protein which contains all types of nine essential amino acids. Moringa tea is just one drink that this superfood craze has spawned. The tea that is prepared from the leaves of Moringa is now a popular beverage with several food and drinks manufactur­ers cashing-in on the trend.
