Letter from Publisher
Dear Readers,
At the outset let me wish you all A Very Happy and Prosperous 2024.
The recently concluded 14th Agrovision was well received and appreciated by participants from the industry and the farming community alike. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, and Chief Patron of Agrovision, with his spirited and visionary ideas, addressed the aspirations and challenges of farmers and the sector at large, at the mega agro event. His firm belief is that farmers must not only be “Anna data”, a food provider, but also “Urja data”, an energy provider. We’ve covered his vision for the agri sector for 2024 and beyond, in this edition, along with developments in Vidarbha’s agri sector.
The new year always allows us to plan something new and to have new resolutions for a year in our personal lives. For a business magazine, it lends an opportunity to share with its readers how the new year is expected to shape up for a sector, and what new things can be anticipated in the new year. There’s an explorative article on the Emerging Agri Trends in 2024. Technology is one area wherein a lot of developments take place every year. Experts maintain that Indian agriculture is on the verge of a breakthrough technological transformation. The use of drones is increasing and the new farm management approach uses GPS and AI together for precise mapping of farmland and helps in ensuring that crops receive exactly the required inputs that are needed for optimum productivity. IOT, big data, and agribots are helping farmers by providing granular data on rainfall patterns, water cycles, fertiliser requirements and real-time monitoring. The government has initiated the ‘4th wave of revolution’ in agriculture to introduce technological advancement to improve yields.
Distinguished plant protection scientist and epidemiologist, Dr C D Mayee, sheds light on Agrovision’s significant role in uniting all stakeholders of the agricultural industry on a single platform, fostering profitability and sustainability in farming. Dr Mayee has been actively engaged with Agrovision in the direct implementation of new technologies. The recent one being “MATING DISRUPTION” technology to overcome cotton pink bollworm, a troublesome pest that has become resistant to traditional pesticide applications in Nagpur, Wardha, and Yavatmal districts in the last few years.
I am sure you must have enjoyed reading the report of the 14th Agrovision held in Nagpur in the December issue. However, that was only a partial report as the December issue was released at the valedictory function. The January edition brings you a complete report of the event.
I am sure this issue will be a keeper and an indicator of what’s to come in the agriculture sector.
Thanks & Regards,
