Drass, also known as ‘The Gateway to Ladakh’, is the coldest place in India. It is also the second coldest place in the world, after Siberia in Russia. Situated at an altitude of 3,230 metres, Drass lies 60km west of Kargil on the road to Srinagar in Kashmir. Temperatures can drop down to about minus 45 degrees Celsius in winter. However, summer in Drass is balmy and many trekkers and campers visit the place during the season.
