Will Vastra take place this year… When?
Whether Vastra, the only international apparel sourcing fair of Jaipur, will take place this year or not, is still not finalized. Though organizers of the event RIICO and FICCI, have announced the dates – 28th June to 1st July 2018 – things will be final only by about 10th of April as claimed by a senior person, familiar about the matter. “So far there is no positive sign regarding the funding from the Government and the same is expected to be clear by the first week of April,” he told with request for anonymity.
The situation is very confusing for many Jaipur-based exporters as the proposed dates of 7th edition of Vastra are very close to 61st IIGF in New Delhi, scheduled to be held from 16th-18th July, 2018.
Till now, all six editions of
Vastra have taken place from September to October only.
There are many such exporters of Jaipur and Pushkar, and few from Delhi-NCR, who participate in both the events. But this year, they are confused as it is not easy as well as much fruitful for them to participate in two similar fairs within a span of 15 days. Such clash of dates will also have negative experience on buyers’ visitation. On above issues, while RIICO and FICCI did not reply to Apparel Online e-mail, but the industry reacted strongly. Purushottam Gupta, CEO, Ekta Fashion who participates normally in both events, agrees with this problem and says that it may be due to state elections. Elections are supposed to take place in December 2018 or January 2019. Pradeep Nahata, Director of Karni Exports, another exporter participating in both events, feels it is really not worthwhile because there is no use inviting any buyer in a short period of 15 days as it is very inconvenient for them to travel again and again. There will be less footfall if both these events will be organized as per current schedule. “To avoid all these, we may participate in Hong Kong Fashion Week, scheduled from 9-12 July,” he said.
