Amann Group takes the ‘Greenpeace’ pledge
Germany-based Amann Group, one of the premium international producers of embroidery and sewing threads, is participating in the Greenpeace Detox Campaign, which aims to eliminate the use of harmful chemicals in textiles. Amann is the first sewing and embroidery threads producer in the world which has accepted the Greenpeace’s Detox commitment and will in future certify all its products according to Appendix 6, which is only used within the context of STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification process. The process, however, is an independent testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate and end-products at all stages of production. Amann, which has a universal presence across all the continents of the globe, has long been applauded for its highest standard of eco-friendly production profile. Aware of its responsibility towards conserving the environment, Amann now joins about 100 other international brands and suppliers, which have signed up for the Greenpeace campaign since its launch in 2011. The Greenpeace initiated. ‘Detox Our Future’ campaign that demands fashion brands to commit to zero discharge of all hazardous chemicals by 2020 and requires their suppliers to disclose the release of toxic chemicals from their facilities to communities at the site of the water pollution. Environmentalists have identified 11 groups of chemicals such as perfluorinated chemicals that are widely used in the textile industry and are of a serious concern due to their effects on humans and the environment. “Greenpeace International launched the Detox Campaign to expose the direct links between global clothing brands, their suppliers and toxic water pollution around the world. It is our pride that Amann Group is the first sewing and embroidery producer worldwide participating in Greenpeace Detox campaign,”
Md. Rokonuzzaman, MD, Amann Bangladesh Ltd. told Apparel Online. An important aspect of Amann Group’s corporate activity is dealing with the environment and its resources responsibly and sustainably. To maintain sustainable product development and social responsibility, Amann is participating in the Greenpeace Detox campaign to build toxic-free future, where dangerous chemicals are no longer produced, used and released into our environment. “We are proven threads supplier in the market and with this inclusion, we strongly believe that both buyers and customers will develop further confidence on our threads,” Rokonuzzaman concluded.
