Geo-Chem installs India’s first VOC machine for professional and precise testing
For a company that is just over a year old, the pace at which Geo-Chem is moving ahead is indeed impressive. After getting self-accredited in textiles, leather footwear, hardline, toys, and a bit in electrical, the highly well-equipped lab has just taken its first step to cater to the industry – furniture, MDF, auto component, home and commercial furnishing etc. – for which Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are primary concerns with the installation of the first VOC machine of its kind in India.

Services is always in the search for ways to support the industry with solutions that impact competitiveness of business. In the process, CPS is moving a step ahead in terms of increasing the capabilities of its labs and as also advancing towards it; its’ set goals for 2018 are to be a complete service provider in the consumer goods segment with solutions for every concern that buyers and endconsumers are talking about. “We are very determined to be different from other companies operating in the CPS space and for us it is about being proactive and looking at problems in a collaborative way to find a win-win answer irrespective of whether it requires heavy investment from our side,” says Manish Kumar, Global Executive Vice President, Geo-Chem.
It is not as if VOC testing is not happening in India, but the precision of results cannot be guaranteed with the current testing procedure and methodology. “With home and International retailers insisting on accuracy of VOC tests, the need for this machine is really huge,” says Manish. The new machine is the latest available in the market and a value addition to the services that Geo-Chem is already providing. All products made from organic material emit chemicals which crossing a certain limit, can be harmful to the health of the user. VOC test measures the amount of such emissions and gives the retailers and brands an assurance that the same is within permissible limits.
Geo-Chem’s VOC services are designed to support both product and supply chain compliance for companies. Geo-Chem provides customers with detailed testing and analysis of a company’s products and recommendations for managing risk within the company and their supply chain. The lab provides testing for emissions, and content of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and can handle projects requiring multiple skill sets and combinations of analytical expertise and capabilities. The machine stimulates real life environment and then the VOC emitted is measured which makes the whole process foolproof. Not only is the machine a commitment to support industry’s business, but also a step to provide Green solutions that will ensure a safe and healthy future for years to come. Green is a direction that is wholeheartedly supported by Geo-Chem and by investing in the machine, with two more such machines to follow, the company is keeping up its commitment not only for its customers, but also for the environment. “There are already tough regulations in the US and Europe on VOC, but even in India the awareness is growing fast and I would not be surprised if India too formulates a regulation on the same soon,” concludes Manish.
