An Equation of Digital Fabrication and Handcraft
The Y installation, designed by the team of &’ ( Emmi Keskisarja & Janne Teräsvirta & Company Architects), aims at providing a hypnotic meditation spot from where to reflect on the changing state of time. It is a temporary piece placed at the Niemelä Tenant Farm at Seurasaari, an outdoor museum in Helsinki. As Y is the mathematical symbol for the unknown, the installation
points to the future and the possible outcomes of Nordic built heritage. It was built with horizontal prefabricated CLT- elements interlocked by 568 timber wedges. The piece stood
without metal or glue, and was itself like a large wooden joint.
