Athree day in­ter­na­tional pro­gram 'Re­verse Buyer Seller Meet' fo­cussed on ASEAN Re­gion was or­ga­nized in Kolkata to pro­mote Or­ganic and Nat­u­ral Prod­ucts of In­dia.

ASSOCHAM with Min­istry of Com­merce and In­dus­try Govern­ment of In­dia, or­ga­nized the three day pro­gram at Kolkata East­ern Zonal Cul­tural Com­plex. The fo­cus of the pro­gram was to en­hance In­dian ex­port to ASEAN Re­gion by con­nect­ing In­dian ex­porters with buy­ers from ASEAN re­gion, the meet was fo­cussed on or­ganic and nat­u­ral prod­ucts in­clud­ing her­bal and ayurvedic prod­ucts.

The pro­gram was in­au­gu­rated by Mr. Alexey M Idamkin, Con­sul Gen­eral, Con­sulate Gen­eral of Rus­sian Fed­er­a­tion at Kolkata along­with Mr. Juan, Rep­re­sent­ing Or­ganic As­so­ci­a­tion of Thai­land and Mr. Bui Trung Thuong, Head of Trade, Em­bassy of Viet­nam at Delhi in the pres­ence of Mr. Ran­jan D. Sen, Chair­man Agri­cul­ture Sub Coun­cil East­ern Re­gion and Mr. Anand Rup Basu, Chair­man, Com­modi­ties and In­ter­na­tional Af­fairsEastern Re­gion and Ms Per­min­der Jeet Kaur Di­rec­tor East­ern Re­gion. There were more than 200 In­dian par­tic­i­pants who dis­played their prod­ucts and in­ter­acted with more than 75 for­eign vis­i­tors.

Hon'ble Min­is­ter of Higher Ed­u­ca­tion and Skill De­vel­op­ment, Govern­ment of West Ben­gal Mr. Pur­nendu Basu, vis­ited the fair on the sec­ond day as a spe­cial guest and was pleased to meet the sev­eral food pro­cess­ing units, star­tups and young ex­porters of the re­gion. He said, "West Ben­gal of­fers var­i­ous op­por­tu­ni­ties for youth and or­ganic sec­tor has huge po­ten­tial of growth". He en­cour­aged youth to avail var­i­ous schemes of the govern­ment. He vis­ited the ex­hi­bi­tion" area and keenly par­tic­i­pated in the dis­cus­sion with the ex­porters.

APEDA was spon­sor part­ner to pro­mote North East Pro­duce to ASEAN buy­ers.

A face to face busi­ness meet­ing of buy­ers from ASEAN coun­tries with In­dian ex­porters was or­ga­nized, where 75for­eign buy­ers met In­dian ex­porters, grow­ers and pro­duc­ers of Or­ganic Agro Prod­ucts, Or­ganic Tea and Spices, Or­ganic Tex­tile to Her­bal Cos­met­ics, Nat­u­ral and Her­bal Medicines, etc. The In­dian ex­porters £rom West Ben­gal, Sikkim, As­sam, Gu­jarat, Delhi, Haryana, Ma­ha­rash­tra, Ker­ala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu par­tic­i­pated at the event.

Viet­nam had its own pav­il­ion at the Expo at Kolkata. This is of sig­nif­i­cance as the year 2017 is a very im­por­tant mile­stone as both coun­tries are cel­e­brat­ing 45th an­niver­sary of diplo­matic re­la­tions. Ear­lier in Novem­ber at 37th In­dia In­ter­na­tional Trade Fair (IITF)Viet­nam par­tic­i­pated as Part­ner Coun­try and at the open­ing re­mark at New Delhi, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, Hon'ble Pres­i­dent of In­dia said, "Viet­nam is a val­ued friend and a mem­ber of ASEAN. It is a pil­lar of In­dia's Act East Pol­icy. We have been con­sol­i­dat­ing trade re­la­tions with Viet­nam and with South­east Asia, which re­mains one of our most im­por­tant busi­ness part­ners."

A Rus­sian del­e­ga­tion also par­tic­i­pated in the pro­gram. A del­e­ga­tion from ASSOCHAM had ear­lier been to St Peters­burg to take part at Global En­trepreneur­ship Week, Rus­sia.

The event was well at­tended and par­tic­i­pated with busi­ness queries worth 20-30 crores were gen­er­ated, in­stant ex­port or­ders were bagged by many of the ex­porters. Fur­ther part­ner­ship with Sin­ga­pore and Malaysia .and Thai­land is be­ing worked upon to sup­port busi­ness deals that formed part of the meet­ing.
