Athree day international program 'Reverse Buyer Seller Meet' focussed on ASEAN Region was organized in Kolkata to promote Organic and Natural Products of India.
ASSOCHAM with Ministry of Commerce and Industry Government of India, organized the three day program at Kolkata Eastern Zonal Cultural Complex. The focus of the program was to enhance Indian export to ASEAN Region by connecting Indian exporters with buyers from ASEAN region, the meet was focussed on organic and natural products including herbal and ayurvedic products.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Alexey M Idamkin, Consul General, Consulate General of Russian Federation at Kolkata alongwith Mr. Juan, Representing Organic Association of Thailand and Mr. Bui Trung Thuong, Head of Trade, Embassy of Vietnam at Delhi in the presence of Mr. Ranjan D. Sen, Chairman Agriculture Sub Council Eastern Region and Mr. Anand Rup Basu, Chairman, Commodities and International AffairsEastern Region and Ms Perminder Jeet Kaur Director Eastern Region. There were more than 200 Indian participants who displayed their products and interacted with more than 75 foreign visitors.
Hon'ble Minister of Higher Education and Skill Development, Government of West Bengal Mr. Purnendu Basu, visited the fair on the second day as a special guest and was pleased to meet the several food processing units, startups and young exporters of the region. He said, "West Bengal offers various opportunities for youth and organic sector has huge potential of growth". He encouraged youth to avail various schemes of the government. He visited the exhibition" area and keenly participated in the discussion with the exporters.

A face to face business meeting of buyers from ASEAN countries with Indian exporters was organized, where 75foreign buyers met Indian exporters, growers and producers of Organic Agro Products, Organic Tea and Spices, Organic Textile to Herbal Cosmetics, Natural and Herbal Medicines, etc. The Indian exporters £rom West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu participated at the event.
Vietnam had its own pavilion at the Expo at Kolkata. This is of significance as the year 2017 is a very important milestone as both countries are celebrating 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Earlier in November at 37th India International Trade Fair (IITF)Vietnam participated as Partner Country and at the opening remark at New Delhi, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, Hon'ble President of India said, "Vietnam is a valued friend and a member of ASEAN. It is a pillar of India's Act East Policy. We have been consolidating trade relations with Vietnam and with Southeast Asia, which remains one of our most important business partners."
A Russian delegation also participated in the program. A delegation from ASSOCHAM had earlier been to St Petersburg to take part at Global Entrepreneurship Week, Russia.
The event was well attended and participated with business queries worth 20-30 crores were generated, instant export orders were bagged by many of the exporters. Further partnership with Singapore and Malaysia .and Thailand is being worked upon to support business deals that formed part of the meeting.
