The Eastern Re­gion Coun­cil of ASSOCHAM or­gan­ised an in­ter­ac­tive ses­sion to an­a­lyse Bud­get 2018 at Kolkata.

Key note ad­dress was de­liv­ered by Mr. Pallav Gupta, Mem­ber, Na­tional Com­mit­tee of Tax­a­tion and GM Tax­a­tion, ITCwho spoke about the di­rect taxes, im­pact on fis­cal deficit, the changes in cus­toms and raised con­cern over long term cap­i­tal gain tax and its im­pact. Mr. Ashis Nundy ex­pert on fi­nan­cial ser­vices, MSMEs and In­ter­na­tional trade and Mem­ber, ASSOCHAM ap­pre­ci­ated ef­forts of FM in sup­port­ing MSME sec­tor, boost given to the ru­ral sec­tor and agri­cul­ture. Mr. Pu­lak Saha of PwC talked abou t the in­di­rect taxes, the cor­po­rate ex­pec­ta­tions and the im­pli­ca­tions. Mr. P. Kar­man from LSI Res­o­lu­tion spoke on cor­po­rate taxes, in­sol­vency and bank­ruptcy code.

The ex­pert panel an­swered queries re­lated to Fi­nan­cial Mar­ket and im­pact of bud­get on Sen­sex and Nifty. The panel­lists also shared their views and re­sponded to the im­pact of bud­get on ed­u­ca­tion sec­tor, health sec­tor, hous­ing, in­fra­struc­ture etc.

Mr. Tar­nal Mukher­jee, Chair­man, School Ed­u­ca­tion Coun­cil ap­praised the ini­tia­tives taken in re­spect of school ed­u­ca­tion. How­ever, he raised con­cerns over pri­vate in­vest­ment sce­nario.

Ms Per­min­der Jeet Kaur, Di­rec­tor, ASSOCHAM while re­spond­ing to me­dia queries stated it to be a bal­anced bud­get and that pos­i­tive in­cludes com­mit­ment to­wards ru­ral econ­omy, agri­cul­ture, in­fra­struc­ture etc. How­ever, she viewed the damp­en­ers as long term cap­i­tal gain tax and clar­ity on job cre­ation.
