POST BUDGET ANALYSIS
The Eastern Region Council of ASSOCHAM organised an interactive session to analyse Budget 2018 at Kolkata.
Key note address was delivered by Mr. Pallav Gupta, Member, National Committee of Taxation and GM Taxation, ITCwho spoke about the direct taxes, impact on fiscal deficit, the changes in customs and raised concern over long term capital gain tax and its impact. Mr. Ashis Nundy expert on financial services, MSMEs and International trade and Member, ASSOCHAM appreciated efforts of FM in supporting MSME sector, boost given to the rural sector and agriculture. Mr. Pulak Saha of PwC talked abou t the indirect taxes, the corporate expectations and the implications. Mr. P. Karman from LSI Resolution spoke on corporate taxes, insolvency and bankruptcy code.
The expert panel answered queries related to Financial Market and impact of budget on Sensex and Nifty. The panellists also shared their views and responded to the impact of budget on education sector, health sector, housing, infrastructure etc.
Mr. Tarnal Mukherjee, Chairman, School Education Council appraised the initiatives taken in respect of school education. However, he raised concerns over private investment scenario.
Ms Perminder Jeet Kaur, Director, ASSOCHAM while responding to media queries stated it to be a balanced budget and that positive includes commitment towards rural economy, agriculture, infrastructure etc. However, she viewed the dampeners as long term capital gain tax and clarity on job creation.
