Goan SKIES, SUN-SAND, VEACHES AND gmr
Carl Sagan once said all birds can't fly, what separates the flyers from walkers is the ability to take off.! While birds have nests, trees and bushes to take off, airports are the abodes of 'flying birds' (planes) for smooth take-offs and landings. GMRhas been the pioneer in providing a perfect platform for aeroplanes and passengers a hassle-free and smooth travel to far off places. Airports are the nodal points to make people meet and distances now are no longer measured in kilometers but in hours. GMR helps in reducing distances between people and helps strangers to become friends and has the never-ending capacity to achieve the impossible.
GMR in its relentless pursuits to bring skies closer to passengers has touched another mileston eby winning the bid for development and operation ofMopa Greenfield Airportin North Goa. Goa, known for its beautiful beaches and a paradise for tourists both from foreign and domestic, would further eliminate distances for tourists and the airport would help increase tourists inflow once the airport becomes operational. Goa thus now gets the additional airspace for airliners to boost tourism. Aviation map is sure to change the toursist destination in the days to come with more airports coming up all over the country.

Developing and making airports operational is not new for GMR. It has mastered the skills in running Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, which is currently ranked World's No.1 airport in its category as well as the Hyderabad airport, which has been consistently ranked among World's top three airports in its category over the last 7 years. It will not be out of place to reiterate the feat of constructing the Delhi airport's Terminal 3 in 37 months and Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport in 18 months, which are world records. GMR Infrastructure in partnership with Megawide Construction. Corporation is also developing Mactan Cebu International Airport ( MCIA) in Philippines.
The last 10 years were quite eventful for the Group. While it had created history by successfully developing and operating Delhi and Hyderabad airports in India, it did not restrict itself within the country. Spreading its wings overseas the infrastructure major had also gathered international experiences.
The IGIA at Delhi truly showcases many majestic and breathtaking vignettes of not only human lives but it also playa key role in giving fillip to the nation's economy. Modern airports are required to manage multiple facets of functions that relate to operational, environmental, technological and commercial needs. While there will always be new airports being planned and delivered globally, there is still a vast majority of airports that need renovation, expansion and modernization. Modernisation of airports is one of the main ingredients for country's economic growth. This also significantly impacts the socio-economic growth of a state which gets a new modern airport. The Mopa airport once developed in four years also would open a new vista of employment opportunities and uplift the GDP of the state, economy of which is largely dependent on tourism.
Airports allow for connectivity, mobility and they generate jobs and increased revenue for businesses. They are, in fact, engines of country's economic growth. India is among the five fastest -growing aviation markets globally with 275 million new passengers added and will displace the UK as the third largest in 2026, according to projections. India sees steep rise in domestic frequencies and according to International Air Transport Association (lATA), a lobby group that represents nearly 260 airlines, comprising 83% of global air traffic.
Aviation traffic reported robust growth over the first decade of this century. In FY2015, the country witnessed passenger movement of 190million (mn) with the IS-year compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) at 11.4%, aircraft movement of 1.6 mn (8.8%) and cargo movement of 2.5 mn tonnes (8.1%), making it a major aviation centre globally.
