In­dian ed­u­ca­tion sec­tor over the past two decades has un­der­gone tremen­dous change and has wit­nessed ma­jor growth and rapid ex­pan­sion. Also, the higher ed­u­ca­tion sec­tor is set for some ma­jor changes and de­vel­op­ments in the forth­com­ing years. The Gov­ern­ment of In­dia has taken sev­eral steps in open­ing of more IITs and IIMs in many new lo­ca­tions.

To meet the as­pi­ra­tions of youth when In­dia moves to­wards be­com­ing a global knowl­edge econ­omy, the Gov­ern­ment of In­dia has ini­ti­ated many steps in aug­men­ta­tion of skill de­vel­op­ment to train work­force to meet the needs of in­dus­try. The Hon'ble Prime Min­is­ter of In­dia has launched the Skill De­vel­op­ment ini­tia­tive pro­grammes like

'Kaushal Bharat' to achieve the tar­get of train­ing 400 mil­lion cit­i­zens by 2022, boast­ing Na­tional Skill De­vel­op­ment Mis­sion. Also two new schemes- 'Sankalp' and 'Strive' have been ap­proved by the Gov­ern­ment to give thrust to skills. AS­SOCHAM in as­so­ci­a­tion with Xcel­er­a­tor or­ga­nized one day con­fer­ence on 'Skill Aug­men­ta­tion and In­dus­try Alignment in Higher Ed­u­ca­tion' on Au­gust 31, 2018 at AS­SOCHAM House, New Delhi. Xcel­er­a­tor pro­vides skill aug­men­ta­tion plat­form for higher ed­u­ca­tion which helps aca­demic in­sti­tu­tions to mod­ern­ize their con­tent and trans­forms de­liv­ery meth­ods for bet­ter learn­ing out­comes and en­hanced in­dus­try alignment.
