Bilateral agreements and MoUs
India was amongst the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the European Economic Community. Over the years, India and the EU have signed a number of bilateral agreements and MoUs.
The total exports to the
European Union countries was US$ 303,526.16million in 201718 and the total imports from the European Union countries was US$ 465,580.99million in 2017-18.
ASSOCHAM played a major role in strengthening the trade relations between the two countries.
ASSOCHAM registered its presence through a series of events in different parts of Europe to maintain the cordial trade relations and also to tap the potential markets for Indians.
The Prime Minister of Netherlands, H.E. Mr. Mark Rutte, launched the ASSOCHAM book titled
ASSOCHAM was a part of the high level business delegation led by the Hon'ble President of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind along with the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare and Panchaya ti Raj,Mr. Purushottam Rupala , Hon'ble members of Parliament and senior Government officials to Bulgaria and Czech Republic from 3rd - 8th September, 2018. "HollandandIndia: Investment & Trade Opportunities" earlier this year.
Several MoUs in the fields of energy, environment, tourism, trade and investment, financial services and defence production, etc. were signed during the visit. During the visit, several meetings were organized in these countries jointly in association with the leading Chambers ofCommerce and Industry of Bulgaria & Czech Republic.
The . MoUs will help ASSOCHAM members to maintain the existing trade relations with Bulgaria and Czech Republic and will also help in finding out new opportunities in different sectors so that the trade relation is more strengthened.
Followed by the visit of the President of India, there was the visit of Hon'ble Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu accompanied by Mr. Shiv Pratap Shukla, Minister of State of Finance, Members of Parliament from Lok Sabha and RajyaSabha and other officials.
High level officials and business delegation to Serbia, Malta and Romania from 14th - 20th September, 2018. ASSOCHAM members were also a part of this delegation under the leadership of Mr. Pavan Abraham, Chairman, ASSOCHAM- North America Chapter.
During the Serbia visit, in the presence of Hon'ble Vice President of India, the President of Serbia addressed the Business Forum. In Malta visit was characterized by cordial discussions with Hon'ble President of The Republic of Malta, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion of Republic of Malta.
In Romania visit, there was . cordial discussion with President of the Senate, Deputy Prime-Minister for Romania, Minister of Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship. The visit helped in deepening bilateral ties with each of these three countries.
ASSOCHAMalso signed three MoUswith The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, Malta, Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Romania and Chamber of Commerce and Industry Prahova, Romania respectively which was covered in the local media.
The MOUS shall pave the way for more businesses to flourish in Serbia, Malta and Romaniain different sectors and deepening the trade relations among all these countries.
Taking the trade relation to a higher level, ASSOCHAM participated in "Eltech International Exhibition of Electronics & Electrical Engineering" in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from 24th - 29th September, 2018.

ASSOCHAM mobilized 46 Indian companies under the Market Access Initiative (MAl) scheme, who showcased their products with an objective to identify potential buyers and business partners to enhance their exports and develop new contacts.
On the sidelines of the Exhibition, a Business Forum was organized with The Indian - Bulgarian Business
Chamber (IBBC), to sensitize Indian companies about the market opportunities offered by Bulgaria and various incentives that the Indian companies can avail.
The Forum was chaired by the Indian Ambassador to Bulgaria, H.E. Ms. Pooja Kapur, Chairman, Indian - Bulgarian Business Chamber, Mr. Borislav Boyanov and Director & Head - International Affairs, ASSOCHAM, Ms. Deepti Pant.
During the Forum, an MoDwas signed between ASSOCHAM and The Indian - Bulgarian Business Chamber for further strengthening the bilateral relations. The Forum was well attended by the Indian and Bulgarian businesses.
