A all roads leads to Delhi to witness more launches in the Auto Expo 2016

The Auto Expo 2016, star ting Februar y 5, is set to witness a record number of product launches, with 80 passenger cars, utility vehicles, two-wheelers and commercial vehicles waiting to be introduced at the biennial event. As many as 20 of these will be global unveilings. With so many vehicle launches and par ticipation from a large number of automotive companies, the organisers, Society of Indian Automobile Manufactur­ers (SIAM), is expecting an average daily crowd of 100,000, which it claims will be the biggest among all auto shows globally.

The component show, which is k ick star ting on Februar y 4 will spread over 80,000 sq mts in 18 halls. This year the expo will see par ticipation from 1,500 companies (50 new entrants) including 900 Indian companies and 600 internatio­nal exhibitors. There are 7 exclusive internatio­nal pavilions from China, Canada, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and the United Kingdom will display an array of components.

In the Motor Show, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) will be showcasing new generation Crossover Utility Vehicle Honda BR-V. Honda BR-V features the combinatio­n of bold, spor ty appearance and handling of an SUV and spacious cabin of a Utility Vehicle. Also on display will be the latest generation of pre - mium sedan Honda Accord. The BR-V and Accord together would be the key models slated for launch in India in future. With the booth concept of “Accelerate with Honda”, HCIL will showcase a wide range of exhibits including models that will be launched in India in future and racing machines that pursue excellence in driving per formance.

Maruti Suzuk i will be launching its most awaited Vitara Brezza. The company will make the global pre - miere of the compact spor t-utility vehicle at the auto show. Industr y sources says that, Maruti will also showcase the Ignis - a compact car with the design language of an SUV - to take on Renault ’s Kwid. The French car maker, in turn, is looking at stepping up its attack on the market leader ’s best-selling small car, Alto, with an AMT version of the Kwid and another variant of the car with a 1-litre engine. Renault would also take the covers of an upgraded version of the Duster SUV.

Nissan I ndia will also launch a new car for the Indian market at the show. The company plans to increase its market share from the current 1.5% to 5% in the Indian passenger car segment, which saw the sale of over 26 lak h cars in the fiscal year 2014-15, when the segment registered a year- on-year growth of 3.9%. Nissan will also launch a third car in the Datsun range, the concept Redi Go, in the third quar ter of the current calendar year. Redi Go will be made on the Common Module Family- A (CMF-A) platform, which is an arrangemen­t between alliance par tners Renault and Nissan to build a wider range of cars from a smaller pool of par ts, resulting in cost savings.
