Tokyo Motor Show
All that’s good from the land of the rising sun
Living up to its theme - Beyond the Motor, the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show unraveled some bold futuristic concepts, which mostly shied away from the bizarre we're used to seeing from Japan
Normally, the Tokyo Motor Show is a display of strength by the Japanese manufacturers. This time around, it was a display of the future. Most concepts and there were many, hinted at autonomous cars, electric cars and cars with artificial intelligence. It was not all doom and gloom though as many of the futuristic concepts were immediately likeable and there were some outrightly beautiful cars as well. Honda made our day by announcing six big launches in the next three years in India while Toyota stopped our hopes from soaring by announcing that there was no likelihood of Daihatsu to make its India debut in the near future. Such a pity that, because the range of Daihatsu small cars and SUVs would have made perfect sense for India. The overall takeaway from Tokyo was that the future may be here sooner than we expect.
