Volvo ties up with Uber


VOLVO HAS signed an agree­ment with Uber to sup­ply them with 24,000 cars ca­pa­ble with au­ton­o­mous driv­ing ca­pa­bil­i­ties.The deal will be ful­filled be­tween 2019 and 2021, mark­ing a new chap­ter in the con­ver­gence of car man­u­fac­tur­ers and sil­i­con val­ley-based tech­no­log­i­cal com­pa­nies. The base ve­hi­cles are de­vel­oped on Volvo Cars’ fully mod­u­lar, in-house de­vel­oped Scal­able Prod­uct Ar­chi­tec­ture (SPA). SPA is one of the most ad­vanced car ar­chi­tec­tures in the world and is cur­rently used on Volvo Cars’ top-of-the-line 90 se­ries cars as well as on the new XC60 mid­size SUV. Volvo will even be us­ing the same base ve­hi­cle for the devel­op­ment of its own au­ton­o­mous ve­hi­cle pro­gramme, with the first full au­ton­o­mous planned for re­lease in 2021.
