Volvo ties up with Uber

VOLVO HAS signed an agreement with Uber to supply them with 24,000 cars capable with autonomous driving capabiliti­es.The deal will be fulfilled between 2019 and 2021, marking a new chapter in the convergenc­e of car manufactur­ers and silicon valley-based technologi­cal companies. The base vehicles are developed on Volvo Cars’ fully modular, in-house developed Scalable Product Architectu­re (SPA). SPA is one of the most advanced car architectu­res in the world and is currently used on Volvo Cars’ top-of-the-line 90 series cars as well as on the new XC60 midsize SUV. Volvo will even be using the same base vehicle for the developmen­t of its own autonomous vehicle programme, with the first full autonomous planned for release in 2021.
