Yamaha MT-09 hits the street
EXPANDING THEIR superbike portfolio in the country, Yamaha Motors has launched the new MT-09 naked superbike. The motorcycle comes in as bigger brother to the MT-07 and slots in below the full-blown MT10 litre-class supersport. The new MT-09 is targeted towards younger buyers who are stepping up from 600cc sports models or thinking of downsizing from a large-displacement model and looking for a two-wheeler with more agility and a compact build for efficient handling. The model will be imported into the country as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and will carry with it a price tag of Rs 10.2 lakh (ex-showroom). Built for the urban jungle, the concept of the MT-09 focuses on strong performance and agility. The design has been borrowed from the flagship MT, its bigger brother, the MT-10.
In terms of design, the motorcycle gets a dual-eye headlight assembly with four LED lights, radiator side-fins, large air-scoops, newly designed winglets under the headlights, single-sided swing arm mounted rear fender and tail light integrated into the body. In terms of handling, the motorcycle boasts an added compression damping adjustor to the front suspension, A&S clutch, a Quick Shift System (QSS) for smoother upshifting and a new seat design for a better grip. It draws power from a newly developed 847cc, 3-Cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which develops 115bhp and 87.5Nm of torque. The motorcycle also gets ABS for added safety.
