Yamaha MT-09 hits the street


EX­PAND­ING THEIR su­per­bike port­fo­lio in the coun­try, Yamaha Mo­tors has launched the new MT-09 naked su­per­bike. The mo­tor­cy­cle comes in as big­ger brother to the MT-07 and slots in be­low the full-blown MT10 litre-class su­per­sport. The new MT-09 is tar­geted to­wards younger buy­ers who are step­ping up from 600cc sports mod­els or think­ing of down­siz­ing from a large-dis­place­ment model and look­ing for a two-wheeler with more agility and a com­pact build for ef­fi­cient han­dling. The model will be im­ported into the coun­try as a Com­pletely Built Unit (CBU) and will carry with it a price tag of Rs 10.2 lakh (ex-show­room). Built for the ur­ban jun­gle, the con­cept of the MT-09 fo­cuses on strong per­for­mance and agility. The de­sign has been bor­rowed from the flag­ship MT, its big­ger brother, the MT-10.

In terms of de­sign, the mo­tor­cy­cle gets a dual-eye head­light as­sem­bly with four LED lights, ra­di­a­tor side-fins, large air-scoops, newly de­signed winglets un­der the head­lights, sin­gle-sided swing arm mounted rear fen­der and tail light in­te­grated into the body. In terms of han­dling, the mo­tor­cy­cle boasts an added com­pres­sion damp­ing ad­jus­tor to the front sus­pen­sion, A&S clutch, a Quick Shift Sys­tem (QSS) for smoother up­shift­ing and a new seat de­sign for a bet­ter grip. It draws power from a newly de­vel­oped 847cc, 3-Cylin­der, liq­uid-cooled en­gine which de­vel­ops 115bhp and 87.5Nm of torque. The mo­tor­cy­cle also gets ABS for added safety.
