TVS’ quarterlitre contender
THE HOSUR, Karnataka-based two-wheeler manufacturer has recently launched its flagship product. Not only does it enters a fiercely contested class but boosts the engine capacity of the RR310 to battle it out with the best in the segment. The first-product to come out of the BMW-TVS technology sharing agreement, the RR 310 is powered by a reverse-inclined, singlecylinder 312cc engine. With power outputs of 34bhp and 27.3Nm, the liquid-cooled engine makes use of a 4-valve head and fuel-injection by Bosch. TVS claims a 160kmph top-speed and 0-60kmph in 2.9 seconds. To achieve these figures, the RR310’s fairing design was developed through extensive wind-tunnel testing giving it the lowest drag coefficient of 0.26. The fairing also integrates Bi-LED headlamps, ducts for ram-air intake and cooling vents. A vertical digital instrument panel has been adopted by TVS offering various running data that includes a lap-timer, 0-60kmph timer and fuel consumption data. Under the fairing resides a steel-trellis frame and suspension are said to be race-tuned by KYB using a 41mm inverted front fork and a cast aluminium swingarm with rear monoshock. The RR310 gets Bybre disc brakes that are equipped with dual channel ABS. TVS will launch the RR310 in phases with a Rs 2.05 lakh ex-showroom price that will differ from state to state.
